Michael Combs survived the sweltering heat and an unlikely bogey on Indian Canyon’s shortest par-5 12th hole to put together a final-round 68 and edge runner-up Jeff Coston by two strokes. Combs’ win ended the two-year reign of Greg Whisman and was worth $12,000.

Michael CombsCombs, from Richland, turned aside several challengers on the final day of the tournament as he posted a 54-hole score of 12-under-par 201.

Spokane’s Mark Rohde cut Combs’ once-comfortable lead to a single shot with a birdie run midway through his final round. And Mark Wurtz pulled to within two strokes after Combs butchered the 12th.

But both contenders fell back after firing and finished in a tie for fifth at 206. Coston played the steadiest of all pursuers and finished at 203 after a final-round 67.
