Greg Whisman
made Rosauers Open history by battling back from a five-stroke deficit
over the final 11 holes to beat Tom Carey in a playoff and become
the first player to win back-to-back titles. The Nike Tour regular
from Everett made a short birdie putt on the second playoff hole
to edge Carey and successfully defend the championship he won in
1994.
Whisman
and Carey finished regulation play at seven-under-par 206 and halved
the first playoff hole with pars on the testy downhill 10th.
Whisman won
it on the par-3 11th, the shortest hole on the course,
with a five-foot birdie putt that Carey couldnt answer.
As he began
the final round, Whisman hardly seemed like a threat to Careys
comfortable lead especially after making bogey on the first.
But he used an aggressive approach and some pinpoint iron play to
launch his dramatic comeback on the back time.
