Rob Gibbons
found a change of venue from Indian Canyon to Meadow Wood
much to his liking as he wired the field to become the first
runaway winner of the Rosauers Open. The tournament was moved to
Meadow Wood because of the poor condition of the greens at Indian
Canyons, and Gibbons devoured the county-owned course with rounds
of 64, 66, and 68 for an eight-stroke victory over runner-up Walt
porterfield, Jr.
His
54-hole total of 198 was 18 strokes uner par and broke a strong
of tight finishes that had defined the event since its inception
in 1988.
Gibbons took
a six-shot lead into the final round and made sure everyone else
was playing for second place by making an eagle-3 on the 561-yard
par-5 second hole. His driving was so long and his iron play so
precise that by tournaments end many of his fellow competitor
had left the comfortable confines of the clubhouse following their
rounds to venture back onto the course and see just what Gibbons
was doing to his golf ball
