1999
When
former PGA Tour performer Bill Porter (Lakeview CC) looks back on
his 1999 Rosauers Open title, he'll remember the 7 under par second
round that propelled him to the championship. After opening with
a 4 under par 67, the Quincy, Washington professional built a 6
shot lead thanks to 5 birdies on the front nine on Saturday. A 6
shot lead going into the final day is comfortable, but with the
nuances at Indian Canyon the tournament was far from over.
In
that final round on Sunday, Porter struggled to one over par on
that same front nine and watched as his lead dwindled to a single
shot over 1997 champion Jeff Coston (Semiahmoo G&CC). Porter gained
some breathing room with an eagle on the par 5 12th, then played
par golf the rest of the way in to finish at a strong 12 under par.
Todd Erwin (Performance Golf) eagled the final hole to post a Sunday
best 6 under par 65, and wound up tied for 2nd with Coston, 2 shots
behind Porter.
Brent Murray (Oswego Lake CC), the only player to post 3 scores
in the 60s finished 3rd, 3 shots back. Past champions Jeff Freeman
(Tamarisk CC) and Chris Mitchell (Tumwater Valley CC) finished in
the top 10, with Craig Schuh (Deer Park G&CC) the top Spokane area
finisher, 6 shots behind Porter.
Kent Brown added another Rosauers Open low amateur trophy to his
collection.
